what do we expect to see in a films opening title sequence?

Analysis of film opening title sequences

1) Title sequence: 22 jump street 

In the beginning we are shown dialogue between the two main characters who are also portrayed in the setting of the scene and this is illustrated as suspending disbelief. \We are also introduced to the genre of the film which is action comedy, this is because we get to see the props which are guns in a suitcase this makes us understand that it is a comedy film because of their comedic dialogue regarding the guns. Furthermore while they are holding a dangerous weapon (guns) they are dancing in a childish manner which illustrates to the audience that the characters are going to make the audience laugh. As well as the dialogue, music is played along in the background which indicates the theme of the film as its a dancing song that gets you moving. As the music continues we are shown the credits of the film and the names of the main characters and the production team are shown while the film is playing as it is not behind a black screen. The dialogue also indicates an effect that the title sequence is going to be a short film it self, so film before a film. In addition we hear a change of music which is played by a Mexican guitarist, this here changes the atmosphere and the setting of the film as we see a different side to the characters, yet again it makes the audience have a feeling that the film is going to give a mixture of feelings across to the audience.

2. Title sequence: Honey, i shrunk the kids

In the begining  of the title sequence the company name was appears ' Walt disney pictures' with a purple background, at that momment of time, there is no action or any performances happening between the characters. Straight after that we were shown  the assoication ' silver screens'. The title sequence started to begin and the main character's name was presented in a massive font, covering the screen, suggesting the importance of the character as it had all the spot light. In the opening sequence we realised that the sequence is a film on its own, as it is an animation with cartoons making a story of their own. This also gives the audience the sense of suspending disbelief, adding on the animation illstrates the scene showing us the theme and genre it  could be, (comdey). Also it does give a sense of a child like film, with the fiction characters in the opening sequence. After the main character was presented, it lead on to the films name that used a big font to show to the audience, simillar to the way the main character was expressed. The music that was played during the sequence was a fast pase music, which indicated the excitement in the moive and the atmosphere the film would have. This could make the audience feel as they are in the film, in the same pase as the animation is continuing, During the end of the sequence the editor's, production team and who the story was made by was shown on the screen, this is when the animation with the cartoon characters had stopped and it was a blank screen with the names.
